LFR, Normal, and Heroic have what are known as Loot Lockouts, where if you have killed the boss, you cannot loot it again. LFR you have to queue for the wings, but for heroic or normal you will generally be in an instance that matches the raid lead's lockout. So if you are 3/8 and start a raid group, you will have 3 bosses dead when you walk in.

I can appreciate that many people don't have the time to commit like I did. Loot-based Lockout You can kill a boss as many times per week as you like, but only loot once per difficulty: once in LFR, once in Normal, and once in Heroic. Applies to all raid bosses of the following expansions: Warlords of Draenor, Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and Shadowlands, as well as Siege of Orgrimmar of Mists of Pandaria. We're betting on the former, as many players are reporting not being able to loot Normal mode bosses after having previously cleared them on LFR! The LFR kill seems to be counting as Normal, as players who had previously done the encounter on the lowest raid difficulty, which unlocked this week, don't even get gold or any loot options from Normal bosses they defeat. Legion and Battle for Azeroth LFR, Normal and Heroic raids fall into the Loot-Based Lockout section. Legion and Battle for Azeroth Mythic raids use the Strict Instance-based Lockout.

Not everyone has the chance to run normal raids, as they take time to set up, A LOT more coordination than LFR does, and is something fairly quick (que times differ) to run during our spare time. I know that gear will be upgradable in the 5.1 patch with VPs, with is something I'm really looking forward to, but don't screw over the casual gamer with crappy gear in the LFRs.

from Ultraxion on normal or heroic (10 or 25) Does the difficulty share the lockout, or the number of players? Ie. Can I run 25 Normal and 25 Heroic in the same week? How many different attempts at a mount can I have for legacy raids?

Although "Heroic" does not require a clear of "Normal" to unlock, "Mythic" will require a clear of "Normal"/"Heroic" to unlock (when it becomes available a week or so after "Normal" and "Heroic" are released). The adds that appear during Rook's Desperate Measures now have a shared health pool.

Loot in the Ny'alotha includes weapons and armor pieces in all difficulties: item level 430 for LFR, 445 for Normal, 460 for Heroic, and 475 for Mythic.
